by Minden Press-Herald

A Sarepta man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. on Doc Steed Road just east of US Highway 371 intersection.

According to Louisiana State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Ford F-150 driven by 45-year-old Stephen Matthews was traveling east on Doc Steed Road when for unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the left side of the roadway and struck a church.

Troopers said Matthews was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash.

The Webster Parish Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

Speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash, according to police. A toxicology sample was taken from Matthews and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
