Traditionally, the Fourth of July is known for picnics, public celebrations and fireworks. It has been that way from the earliest days of our history, in fact, on July 2, 1776, after the formal document had been approved by the Continental Congress John Adams wrote the following to his wife Abigail: ““I am apt to believe it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. … It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward
