Alvin Martel Carver, beloved husband, father and “PaPaw”, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, following a lengthy illness.

Al was born June 13, 1931, in Georgetown, La., to Alvin Harley Carver and Ethel Barrett Carver. After graduation from Georgetown High School, he joined the United States Air Force, with 4 1/2 years of service. He returned home to marry his sweetheart, Rosemary Harrison. Together they raised their two greatest blessings – daughter Judy and son Mark.

Al was employed with La. Wildlife and Fisheries in the Education Department in 1960, and retired in 1996. He took leave from the state and worked for his brother, Dr. Glynn Carver, as sales and credit manager with Mister Twister.

Al had a great passion for the outdoors and people. He enjoyed teaching others Hunter Safety education. He was a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited, and past master of Minden Lodge #51.

Al loved working for the Lord. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Minden, La., where he served as a deacon, trustee, and Sunday school teacher for the Senior Men’s class.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Rosemary H. Carver; daughter Judy Carver Holloway and husband Mike; and son Mark Carver and wife Jane; grandchildren Wade Holloway and wife Melanie, Jason Holloway, Julie Carver Franks, Paige Carver Waller, Tyler McLemore and wife Amelia, and Maggie Dinsmore and husband Drew; great-grandchildren Hylie and Kase Holloway, Macy and Presli Waller, Sunnie Franks, Ella Kate Dinsmore and Ava McLemore; brothers Dr. Robert Glynn Carver and Dr. Randall Carver (Betty); and relatives Curt Carver and Cathy, and Grigg and Kelly Woodring.

Pallbearers are: Wade Holloway, Jason Holloway, Dr. Huey Moak, Lowrey Moak, Curt Carver and J.D. Greene.
Honorary pallbearers are: members of the Emmanuel Senior Men’s Sunday school class, John Haygood, Bob Kimble, Bob Johnson and Ed Durham.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 5, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Minden, with Bro. Matt Cate and Bro. Richard Methvin officiating. Interment will follow at Gilgal Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Alvin with donations to St. Jude, Emmanuel Baptist Building Fund or the donor’s choice.
