Apaches debut Saturday at ULM’s Malone Stadium

Glenbrook High School began Fall practice this week as first year head coach Drew Maddox gets to work building a team he hopes will have a successful season.

“The team is coming along, putting in the hard work to get ready for the season,” Maddox said. “The seniors will be the ones who will flip this program. They are setting a high standard in practice and working hard.”

Maddox said seniors like linebacker Marshall Meek and offensive lineman Abram Anders have put in the time already this offseason to get ready for the season.

“These seniors have worked their rear-ends off already,” Maddox said. “They are smart kids and have already adjusted to some of the changes in the system we have made. The challenge is having enough time. We don’t have a lot of preseason to get ready for our first game, and the kids aren’t even in school yet.”

The Apaches will play their jamboree at ULM’s Malone Stadium on August 11. Glenbrook takes on Hillcrest from 3:30-3:55 p.m. and St. Aloysius from 4:30-4:55.

“The focus will be on conditioning mostly. We want to see where we are at physically,” Maddox said. “We don’t have a lot of guys so a lot of our players will have to play on both sides of the ball.”

In addition to conditioning, Maddox said preparing for the mental side of the game will be a focus of the jamboree as well.

“It’s the little things. We want guys to make sure they are lining up correctly first of all.” Maddox said. “We’re trying to avoid foolish penalties early in the season and the jamboree is a good test for us to see where we are.”
