MINDEN – The Glenbrook Apaches have faced some adversity this season.
Almost halfway through the season already, Glenbrook has seen its share of struggles, most of them coming on the road. Luckily for the Apaches, Friday night’s game was played at the friendly confines of Apache Stadium.
It was also homecoming night at Glenbrook and in front of a larger crowd than usual, the Apaches delivered a 32-25 win.
First year head coach, Chris Norton was happy to see his team move to 2-0 at home for the year.
“Our guys played really hard tonight,” Norton said. “We put up some points, I think we were close to 400 yards rushing.”
Leading the way on offense was senior Clay Simonton.
“We made a commitment to running the football,” Norton said. “It fits what we’ve got better, guys like Clay, Caleb Wilson and Tristan Dye ran the ball well. Hunter Vaughn played well at quarterback also.”
The Apache defense gave up more points to the visiting Rebels than they would have liked, but came back strong to finish the game and preserve the Glenbrook win.
“Once again, Garret Sanders played great going both ways,” Norton said. “He’s played almost every snap this year. He and Lyle Reagan along with Hunter Flournoy and Austin Harris on the defensive line have been giving us great efforts.”
Through the air Hunter Vaughn went two of six with 33 yards and a touchdown. Clay Simonton was two of three with 65 yards and threw a touchdown of his own.
Simonton rushed for 183 yards and Caleb Wilson had a big game pitching in 137 yards on the ground.
Caden Copeland had 60 yards and a touchdown to lead the receivers.
Defensively Lyle Reagan led the team with 7 tackles followed by Tristan Dye who had 6 1/2 tackles and a sack. Simonton, Reagan, Wilson and Dye all had sacks as well. Austin Harris and Austin Jones each forced fumbles for the Apaches.
