Sis. Birdie B. Dennis was born April 7, 1926 to Mr. John Dennis Sr. and Mrs. Annie Bell Autry Dennis. She was the fourth of 10 children born to this parentage.

At the very young age of 12, she received the Lord as her personal Saviour at Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she grew strong in the Lord. She sang in the church choir and served as the church secretary and treasurer from May 15, 1965 to March 20, 1997. She was a very faithful member until her health failed.

Birdie was educated in the Caddo and Webster Parish school systems. She later moved to Eldorado, Arkansas at an early age. She was employed at the Garrett Hotel where she worked for several years.

She met Robert Shutes of Smackover, Arkansas and to their bond one daughter, Delores was born. Still at a young age, she returned to her hometown of Minden where she was employed as a household technician and a private duty caregiver.

Birdie B. Dennis departed this life on Oct. 13 in Minden. She was a praying mother, loving, giving and kind to her daughter, granddaughter and great grandchildren. She leaves great memories to her daughter Delores Dennis; one granddaughter Kimberly Ann Dennis Cobb-Howard (Josh); four great grandchildren, Jauwayn Dennis-Howard; Jaylen Dennis-Howard, Jermeica Dennis-Howard, and Javeon Dennis-Howard; one brother, Alberta Dennis; one sister, Perleana Coleman nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Sis. Birdie B. Dennis will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 at Mt. Olive B.C., with the Rev. Roy Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. in Kennon’s Mortuary Chapel.
