Bonnie Swain Smith

by Minden Press-Herald

Bonnie SmithBonnie Swain Smith was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Biloxi, Miss. in her family’s home. Bonnie was blessed to be in a close-knit family who always showed their love for one another. In growing up she developed an easy-going manner and never met a stranger. She instilled in her children and grandchildren high morals and the importance of integrity, honesty and the value of family.

A mother and homemaker, Bonnie was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Over the years she prepared many meals for those who were unable to care for themselves. Bonnie had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Point Chapel Assembly of God Church where she loved her late pastor, Richard Bolt and his wife, Nancy and formed many lasting friendships. She married her husband, Ed Swain in 1951 in Mississippi; together they had four children. The family moved to Dubberly in the 1960’s where they enjoyed the simple life. After 36 years of marriage, Bonnie lost her husband, Ed. Through friends and family connections she met Darrell Smith and they later married. Darrell and Bonnie enjoyed 25 years of marriage.

After 81 years of a remarkably healthy life, Bonnie was diagnosed with cancer. Through the last year she has carried herself with grace and dignity while teaching all of us the value of life.

Bonnie lost her courageous battle on the morning of Nov. 4, 2014. May her caring and loving manner be forever written on the hearts of those whose lives were touched by her.
