Cancer foundation hosting Pink Pearl Tea Saturday

by Minden Press-Herald

In recognition of national Breast Cancer Awareness month, Anna Pink Ribbon Cancer Foundation, L3C, will host three events in addition to the two already held this month.
Upcoming events include a Pink Pearl Tea at Orleans on Main, Saturday, Oct. 10, and on Saturday, Oct. 17, along with More Than Conquerors Breast Support Group, a pageant for breast cancer survivors will be hosted. The beauty and breast pageant will be at the American Legion Hall in Minden. Also, at Pink Pratique, Friday, Oct. 23, information will be shared to raise awareness of breast health programs available in our community and to schedule breast cancer screening and diagnostic appointments.

At noon Saturday, at the Pink Pearl Tea, this will be an ideal opportunity for breast cancer survivors in the community to come together and share their stories. Each survivor is encouraged to bring a guest. Breast cancer survivors and guests will be treated to an elegant tea with an appetizing menu.

Special tokens will be given to each survivor in attendance.

The guest speaker for the tea will be Rexie Thomas, with the More than Conquerors Breast Cancer Support Group. Also, Kelly Matkins, mission coordinator with Susan G. Komen Northwest Louisiana, will be in attendance.

Local vocalists will provide entertainment.

A silent auction will take place during the tea. Several items in the auction have been donated by local business owners including Pink Pratique, Gray’s Jewelry and Inside-Out Beauty Center.

The event is open to the public. To ensure priority seating, breast cancer survivors should call 318-639-5035 by 5 p.m. Oct. 9.

There is no admission to attend; however, donations will be accepted.

The Anna Pink Ribbon Cancer Foundation began its work in the Minden community this year. The mission of the foundation is to empower our community, raise awareness and help those affected by breast cancer through education, outreach and support services.

A new breast cancer support group will begin meeting in Minden soon. The date, time and location of the first meeting will be announced at the tea.

The foundation already hosted a fashion show at the Minden Civic Center Sept. 26, and on Oct. 3, the foundation hosted its first Anna Pink Ribbon Councer Foundation 5K Run/Walk.
