Christmas Parade set roll this weekend

Santa Claus is coming to town Saturday for the Minden Christmas Parade.

“Dreaming of A White Christmas” is the theme of this year’s parade, which is being sponsored by the Greater Minden Chamber.

“I brought to our Chamber’s Executive Board’s attention that there would not be a Christmas Parade this year. After a little discussion, everyone was in agreement that this was something we needed to make sure happened for our community,” chamber President Stephanie Barnette said. “We are excited to have the parade on the same day as the Christmas Tour of Homes and Minden Main Street’s ‘Wrap It Up Downtown’ event.”

Participants are urged to decorate their float with a traditional Christmas scene.

The parade is set to roll through downtown at 5:30 p.m. Awards for best band, best marching group, Santa’s award – Given to the overall outstanding entry presenting and illustrating the theme “Dreaming Of A White Christmas”
and spectacular sparkles – Given to the entrant that presents an outstanding display of lights and/or other type of illuminations will be giving immediately after in front of the civic center.

The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Wednesday.

“We hope everyone comes out and partakes in the fun, Christmas activities that will be going on that day and finishes up their Christmas shopping in our local stores,” Barnette said.
