Mother Nature smiled on Minden Saturday with sunny skies and amiable weather as revelers enjoyed everything the fourth annual Fasching Festival had to offer.

The Fasching, the German equivalent to Mardi Gras, served up German-style food, entertainment and fun. Kids got their faces painted, enjoyed the rides at the “karneval” and several games. Adults got to do a little early Christmas shopping and enjoy some good music, entertainment and see Santa Claus and his elf.

Quite a large number of Dubberly residents spoke against approval of an application for a deep well injection waste disposal facility Thursday in the Minden City Council chambers, but individuals who didn’t get a chance to attend the public hearing can still have a voice on the issue.

Written comments will be accepted by the Department of Natural Resources until 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 on Nelson Energy’s application to operate a commercial disposal facility on the company’s property just off Jack Martin Road near Dubberly.

American girls love British boys: One Direction won artist of the year at the American Music Awards, taking home three honors and was the night’s big winner next to Katy Perry, who didn’t attend the show.

One Direction also won favorite band, duo or group — pop/rock and favorite album — pop/rock for “Midnight Memories” at the fan-voted show on Sunday night.
