Camp Minden hosted a reception for retired District 10 Rep. Jean Doerge Thursday. Doerge received honors from Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Commission (WPCVC) and Louisiana National Guard (LANG).
WPCVC Chair Kerry Easley presented Doerge with a trophy recognizing her years of essential support of tourism in the parish.
LANG Brigadier General Owen Monconduit thanked Doerge for her part in creating and supporting Camp Minden and particularly in bringing the Youth Challenge Program to Camp Minden.
He presented Doerge with two special honors: a plaque honoring her for her support of LANG and Camp Minden and the Louisiana National Guard Distinguished Civilian Service Medal, the highest LANG award given to civilians.
Sen. Robert Adley said Doerge always handled Webster's representation in a composed and devoted way. Although, according to him there could be exceptions to her calm when, and only when necessary.
One thing he pointed out that would be sorely missed in Baton Rouge were the "Doerge Burgers," plate-sized burgers that began with her husband Everett.
Doerge was clearly honored yet humble with all of the accolades.
"When you go do a job, you're doing it because it's what you think you need to do. You don't ever think about the consequences of how someone looks at it," she said.
"I think that's what I've done over the past 12 years, but I think y'all have given me too much credit. Someone had to initiate or let me know what needed to be done, and you had to give me support while I was working on that particular project. So many of you deserve as much credit for what has been accomplished as I do."
