On April 14, the Caney Lake recreation area will host a Louisiana Mountain Bike Series race.

"This race is the second of eight races held state wide for the Louisiana State mountain bike championship," race organizer Shane Waites said. "The event is called

"Racing Caney" which will be held at Caney Lakes Recreation Area north of Minden on April 14. The mountain bike trail is marked and starts in the park at the North Lake boat launch."

"There will be a wide range of riders from expert to beginner along with a kids race," Waites said. "The course is very beginner friendly, and we welcome everyone with a bike and a helmet to participate. We will have plenty of kids activities along with food and drinks for everyone. This is a perfect opportunity for people of Minden to participate or come spectate."

The event will bring an economic boost to the Minden area, as racers in for the weekend will be lodging and eating at local establishments.

"We will offer awards and cash prizes for each event," Waites said. "Riders can also gain points for the championship series. This is a sanctioned USA Cycling event (usacyling.org). The race is presented by River Dawg Racing."

River Dawg Racing is a race and event promotion business that donates profits to Xtreme Missionary Adventures. XMA (xmaonline.com) will be doing the timing and race day management for the race.
