The Glenbrook Apaches advanced to the MAIS Class A South State Baseball Championships but it wasn't easy.
After losing Game 2, 3-2 to Riverfield, the Apaches had to come back to beat the Raiders in Game 3, which they did 6-4, to advance. The Apaches will now play Bens Ford Christian School.
"I was real proud of the way we were able to come back and win Game 3 after losing Game 2," Apache coach Jonathan Hardy said.
"Riverfield is a real good team and winning this series gives us a chance to win South State and possibly another state championship."
In Game 2, Logan Clark pitched a good game, going all seven innings and giving up just three earned runs. He scattered seven hits and struck out seven batters.
Clark added two singles on offense and Connor Copeland went three-for-four. Jacob White had two singles and a RBI and Clay Simonton, Spencer White and Cameron Matthews all added singles.
In the deciding Game 3, the Apaches out-scored Riverfield to take the three-game series.
Pitchers Bailey Petit and Spencer White combined to hold the Raiders to just four runs. Petit started the game and went the first five innings, striking out four. White closed out the final two innings to get the win.
Dakota Shinall had two singles and two RBIs and Jacob White and Conner Clark both had RBI-singles. Simonton and Petit both added base hits.
"I'm really proud of Spencer White and the way he came in and pitched," Hardy said. "He's pitched in a lot of big games the last two years and he's done a great job for us. He came into the game and held them down while we were able to get some runs. I'm really proud of our whole pitching staff."
The Apaches will begin the South State series on Tuesday in Bogalusa, Mississippi at 4 p.m. at Bens Ford Christian School. Game 2 and a possible Game 3 would be back at Glenbrook on Thursday.
The Apaches are now 23-5 on the season.
