Chamber takes aim at community events with new tournament

IMG 4431Shooters will take aim during the inaugural Sporting Clays Tournament, which is one of many ways the Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce is aiming to extend opportunities to the community.

"We want to offer a fun way for people to participate in chamber activities," said Jerri Ray de Pingre', chamber president.

Dan Gibson, who has participated in other clay tournaments, suggested the idea to de Pingre'.

"Sporting Clay Tournaments are a lot of fun," he said. "I thought this might be a great event to extend to the Minden area and when I mentioned it to Jerri, she loved the idea."

"We have wanted to offer something other than a golf tournament for some time," de Pingre' explained. "So when Dan brought Sporting Clays up, it was a perfect fit."

The Sporting Clay Tournament, sponsored by Gibsland Bank and Trust, will be held Friday, May 17, beginning at 9 a.m. at Los Paloma, 900 Seven Pines Road in Benton.

Sponsorships and teams are still available.

Team sponsorships cost $500 and include five team members.

Shooting station sponsorships cost $200 and include signage at a shooting station and the ability to set up a promotional tent at the shooting station.

Sponsoring a station and team includes both benefits and costs $675.

Those who want to participate but do not have a team can register as an individual shooter for $100 and be placed on a team.

Registration for the shoot begins at 7:30 a.m. and lunch will be served for all shooters at noon.

First, second and third place teams and individuals will be given prizes.

Shooters should bring their own 12- or 20-gauge shotgun, at least 125 shells and ear and eye protection.

To sponsor, register or for more information call Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce at 377-4240.
