Will play for State title later this week
NATCHEZ, MS. — For the second year in a row, the Glenbrook Apaches have won the South State Class A baseball Championship and now will look to add a second straight Class State Championship later this week.
The Apaches defeated Bens Ford Christian School, 4-1, on Saturday in Natchez to close out their South State series 2-0.
Glenbrook will face the winner of the Bayou Academy/Tri County series that will conclude today.
Logan Clark started the game for the Apaches and went the first five innings to get the win. He allowed just two hits and struck out seven. Jacob White pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and Bailey Petit pitched the seventh, giving up one run.
"I was really pleased with our pitching and defense," Glenbrook coach Jonathan Hardy said. "Over the last two games we haven't walked anybody or made any errors, and that's going to keep you in a lot of ball games and gives you a chance to win. I was pleased with that part, but we've got to hit the ball better."
Hardy says that because the Apaches could only muster three hits in the win. Clark and Tristan Sanders both singled and Connor Copeland had a double.
"We definitely have to hit the ball better in the next round," he said. "We have to do a better job of getting on base and picking up runners in scoring position. We need to flat out do a better job of getting runs on and around if we want to win the state championship."
The Apaches will play the winner of today's Bayou Academy/Tri County game, with the games to be played later this week. Day and time are yet to be determined.
The Apaches are now 25-5 on the season.
