Martha Russell139Martha Brunson Russell passed away Jan. 28, 2014.  She was 86 when she went to be with her Lord and Savior.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.  Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Bistineau Baptist Church in Heflin.  Officiating will be the Reverend Wayne Whiteside, former pastor of Bistineau Baptist Church. Mrs. Russell was born on April 12, 1927, in the Lauhon community to Tom and Georgia Brunson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Billy Lance Russell; brother, Walter Lois Brunson; father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Catha Russell; daughter-in-law, Mary Nell Russell; sisters-in-law, Daisy Smithey and Shirley Miller; and brothers-in-law, Joe Butler, Sam Miller and Jamey Smithey.

Mrs. Russell was a life-long resident of Heflin.  She had a long, distinguished career with the Webster Parish School system where she served as a meat processor and eventual manager of the Heflin Locker Plant.  In addition, she joined with her husband to run a successful cattle and dairy business; however, most importantly she was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.  Mrs. Russell was a person of integrity, class and high morals. Her daily demeanor served as a positive influence to countless people.

The two most important things in Mrs. Russell's life were her church and family.  She was a life-long member of Bistineau Baptist Church where she was always willing to serve where needed.  She was known for her faithful attendance and unyielding support of her church family.  Mrs. Russell loved her family and friends whom she considered as extended family.

Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her husband, sisters and friends at weekly social gatherings. She equally enjoyed seeing and talking about her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Her love for them was evident by the numerous pictures that decorated her home.

She is survived by her son, Tommy Lance Russell and wife, Melinda of Heflin; daughter, Sharon Russell Morrow and husband, Billy of Heflin; five grandchildren, Johnny R. Rowland Jr and wife, Sherri of Dubberly, Jason B. Rowland and wife, Marla of Bossier City, Carrie Russell Woodard and husband, Jody of Marthaville, Cory L. Russell and wife, Ivy of Benton and Larry Reed Waldron and fiancée, Amanda of Haughton; eight great-grandchildren, Madison Rowland, Morgan Rowland, Cade Woodard, Cody Woodard, Rheagan Rowland, Pearce Russell, Lauren Waldron and Ava Russell; two sisters, Elsie Brunson Butler and Faye Brunson Harrison; brother-in-law, Jack; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Glen Johnston; ex son-in-law, Larry Waldron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Russell Day, Rene' Johnston, Gary Smithey, Keith Harrison, Joey Butler and Steve Ramsey.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Bistineau Baptist Church Building Fund, 195 Bistineau Church Road, Heflin, La. 71039.
