Spiritual Disciplines: Prayer

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." Colossians 4:2 NIV

The second training exercise or discipline the believer must practice to become spiritually fit is to spend time in prayer.

A simple definition for prayer is a talk with God. It is sharing with God one's thoughts and desires which includes praise, thanksgiving, and petition. But a believer's prayer life must move past the basics to a deeper communication with God by watching and becoming aware of His works, and by listening to His voice through His Word, the Bible. To be physically fit, one must consistently and devotedly exercise, not just one day a week, but daily. To be spiritually fit, one must likewise be devoted to prayer, alert and thankful.

Lord Jesus, as I exercise to become physically and spiritually fit, teach me to pray. Let my exercise of prayer become a joy as I spend time with You.
