Willie Gene Jackson was born Jan. 11, 1946, the second child of three children born to the late Ella Mae Jackson. He was affectionately known to most people as "Black Dog."
He confessed Christ as his Saviour at an early age and united with Saint Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. B. F. Martin.
Willie Gene was a 1964 graduate of Webster High School and continued his education at Grambling State University. He was drafted into the Armed Services in 1966. He served in the United States Army until honorably discharged in 1968. After completing his military duties, Gene returned to Minden to begin his career as a painter alongside of his father.
