Funeral services for Eugene "Gene" Francis will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2014, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be the Rev. Lyndel Bullard. Interment will follow at Doyline Cemetery in Doyline. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Gene was born July 16, 1920, in Pattonville, Texas and entered into rest March 11, 2014, in Minden.
Gene retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service. During his years of service he was selected outstanding airman of the 69 Bomb Squad 44th Bomb Wing for the period September 1, 1954 to March 1, 1955. He graduated from the Strategic Air Command Non-commissioned Officers Academy, received two Air Force Commendation Medals and served a number of years on the I.G. Team. While serving at Barksdale, he was selected NCO Officer to represent Barksdale at the National NCO Competition.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Francis of Doyline; son, Gary Francis and wife, Marie of Haughton; daughter, Sharon Eiland and husband, John of Doyline; daughter, Gaye Francis of Memphis, Tenn.; and son, Mickey Francis and wife, Tommie of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Gary Brian Francis, Stacey Eiland Sable, J.C. Eiland and Jennifer Francis; and one great-grandchild, Christina Francis.
