Investigation leads to drug trafficking arrest

Crawford

A three-month investigation into the distribution of illegal narcotics ended on a positive note for Minden police officers last week with the arrest of a 54-year-old Minden man, chief of police Steve Cropper said.

Reginald Crawford, who lives in the 100 block of West Roosevelt, was taken into custody at his residence by narcotics investigators without incident. Crawford was picked up on two warrants, each charging him with distribution of CDS Sch. I (synthetic marijuana), Cropper said.

An additional charge of possession of CDS Sch. I (synthetic marijuana) was added when officers found a package of synthetic marijuana in the suspect’s possession at the time of the arrest, the chief said.

“When our officers made contact with him, they found a two-gram package of Voodoo Black synthetic marijuana on his person,” Cropper said.

Cropper said Voodoo Black is one of many brand names for synthetic marijuana, and can easily be purchased in stores. In Minden, though, police have arrested store owners for selling synthetic marijuana and continue to keep an eye out for any sign that a retail outlet is selling the substance.

“We try to keep it out of our stores, but there are so many places where it is available,” he said. “It is not as popular as leaf marijuana, but some people feel safer buying synthetic from a store than buying weed from someone on the street.”

Cropper said MPD captains Dan Weaver and Marvin Garrett headed the successful investigation, while Sgt. Chris Cheatham, Sgt. Ryan Barnette and Lt. Richard Cooper assisted in the arrest.
