by Minden Press-Herald

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at Fort Logan Veterans Cemetery in Denver, Colo. to celebrate the life of John Carroll Boyd. Officiating at the graveside services will be Chaplain Cody Hufstedler.

John was born Feb. 26, 1939, in Shreveport to Jimmy and Elsie Boyd. He passed away Sept. 23, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver with his wife by his bedside.

John was a 1957 graduate of Minden High School and a member of the varsity football team. Class reunions were so important to him because he shared a closeness with all of his classmates through the years. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany. While there, he met his “princess,” Ingrid Hoffman whom he later married.

After returning to the U.S. he taught school in Caddo Parish where he resided. In 1968 he earned his masters degree from Louisiana Tech. Later, he moved his residence to Denver where he resumed his teaching career.

John and his wife spent years living in various parts of the world as she pursued her career. During this time, he became an avid student of the stock market, making this his second career. Eventually, both retired and decided to make Denver their home. His generosity was evident in the many philanthropic causes he supported.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Ingrid H. Boyd of Denver; one brother, David Boyd of Deville; one sister, Kay Smiddy and husband, Sam, of Gibsland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
