Knights set for district battle against Green Oaks

by Minden Press-Herald

The North Webster Knights have seen their fair share of ups and downs this season.

The Knights lost to defending class A state champions, Haynesville, by just three points and a four point loss to perennial powerhouse Evangel. The only team to defeat the Knights by more convincingly was Natchitoches Central and that was a three point game with less than four minutes remaining before the Chiefs got a few breaks.

On the flip side of that, North Webster has been dominant in their five wins this season, with their average margin of victory being 39 1/2 points.

This week the Knights will be looking for one of those lopsided wins as they travel to Shreveport for a showdown with 2-6 Green Oaks.

Knights head coach John Ware warns that this is a team better than their record shows.

“It’s pretty good right now,” Ware said. “We’ve played some pretty good ball the past couple weeks. We’re going up against a team this week that record wise isn’t good but their not bad. They’ve been in a lot of ball games and lost some close ones.”

Green Oaks likes to operate out of the spread offensively, something the Knights will have to adjust too.
“They like to spread it out and throw it around,” Ware said. “They’ll spread you out and then run the quarterback. They’ve stopped themselves with turnovers.”

On Offense, the Knights will go against a Green Oaks defense that runs a 4-2-5 scheme with a lot of speed in the secondary.

The North Webster offense has been sluggish at times this season but Ware likes his team’s chances with the progression they’ve shown and the way his defense is playing.

“Our style of play offensively goes with what we do defensively and on special teams,” Ware said. “If we continue to run the ball and play lights out defense that’s a great way to win a lot of football games.”
