The Lakeside Running Warriors competed in the Class 2A State Championship at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches Monday, November 12.

In the boy’s championships, Logan Bailey led the Warriors to a third place finish with a time of 18:45. Bailey is ranked fifth in the state. His personal goal at this race, was to make it on the podium, which he achieved.

This race put Bailey on the All-State 2A squad, making it the tenth year in a row for Lakeside Boys to be represented in the top-ten finishers.

Lakeside High School is the only Public School in the State to have a runner finish in the top ten for ten consecutive years.

Timothy Mansfield placed thirtieth with a time of 21:00. Senior Tyler Davis finished number 32 in the race with a time of 21:09. Freshman Jairo Aguinaga placed 43 with a time of 21:53. Right on his heels was eighth-grader Owen Smith with a time of 21:53. This race was Smith’s first state meet.

With a time of 23:08, Ken Dubose, finished number 64, and Jace Pate placed in the top-100 with a time of 25:06.

For the Lady Running Warriors, Angelina Futch ran a 29:27 and placed number 69 out of 120 girls.

Fourteen schools were represented in the tournament.

There were 161 runners in the boys 2A state champion race.

Out of 23 schools competing, Lakeside boys placed fifth with 148 points. Lakeside finished first among public schools at the tournament. Cross country and Track are the only sports that have public and private schools competing on the same field. The weather and running conditions were a challenge this year at NSU.

Temperatures were in the 40s and a muddy course made the three-mile race feel longer.
