Lakeside Warriors back at home this week

by Minden Press-Herald

Last week, the Lakeside Warriors traveled down I-20 west to Shreveport for a match up with powerhouse, Calvary Baptist Academy.

The Warriors were heavy underdogs going into that contest and the game showed why Calvary is considered by many to be the best team in Class 2A.

This week Lakeside should fare better, being at home for a showdown with winless North Caddo.

“I think we’ve been pretty attentive,” Pesses said. “They seem eager to get back out there. We’re ready to get after it.”

North Caddo hasn’t been able to put together a complete game on the season, as their 0-8 record indicates. However, Pesses warns this isn’t a team to be taken lightly.

“They have a stable of backs on offense,” Pesses said. “The quarterback is very ellusive and fast, their two wings are really fast, one of them is a very big kid, and the fullback is very gritty as well.”

The Rebels will also challenge the Warriors on the other side of the ball too. North Caddo has fared well in the first half of their games, but Lakeside’s potent rushing attack hopes to grind out the win.

“It’s important for us to maintain our blocks,” Pesses said. “We have to work our way up to the second level on those blocks. If we do that we should be able to break some runs.”

With a 3-5 record on the season, a win is absolutely necessary if the Warriors wish to stay in the playoff picture.

“We’re up against the wall right now,” Pesses said. “We’re obviously trying to take it one game at a time. We know we need both wins, but we’re focused on North Caddo.

Friday also marks senior night for 10 Lakeside seniors.

“This year we have 10 seniors,” Pesses said. “These guys have been with me the past three years I’ve been here. They’ve shown a lot of leadership and they all are proud to have represented their school on the football field.”
