Lakeside Warriors win thriller game against Ringgold

by Minden Press-Herald

The Lakeside Warriors hit the road Monday, making the short trip from Sibley over to Ringgold for a matchup with one of their oldest rivals.

On paper the game probably seemed like an easy victory for the Warriors but the Redskins reminded us all why they don’t play them on paper, fighting their way into overtime before Lakeside left town with a 64-53 overtime win.

It was a dramatic game and one that Lakeside head coach Jason Gould was glad to be on the winning end of when he caught his breathe late Monday night.

“They’re one of our old rivals,” Gould said. “They outscored us 11-8 in the first quarter and we went into halftime down by 3. We were lucky to only be down by 3. We just made a lot of mistakes in the first half on just simple fundamentals like catching the ball and blocking out. It really hurt us early on and Ringgold was fired up. Things were definitely going their way.”

After Ringgold hit a big-time three-pointer to take a two point lead with less than a minute remaining, Lakeside had the ball for their final possession. Quatarus Solomon took over from there, driving into the lane and hitting a reverse layup with 4 seconds left on the clock to send the game to OT.

Solomon and Lakeside dominated in the overtime, finishing the game on a 14-3 run to take the win.
Davian Whiting had the hot hand for Lakeside, finishing with 21 points. Solomon finished with 18 and the big layup, while Frankie Miles added 11 and Jamarion Teal had 9.

Lakeside will take on North Webster in the Minden Holiday Classic, Wednesday Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace.

Lady Warriors vs. Lady Redskins

The Lady Warriors fell to the Lady Redskins, 55-38.

The Lady Warriors hung tight early on the road, but in the second half Ringgold started knocking down shots while Lakeside went cold from the field.

“We did a pretty good job of not getting down early,” Lady Warrior head coach Tavasha Anderson said.

“We were only down by 2 points at halftime, but in the second half they knocked down shots and we didn’t. That cost us the game.”

Cayla McKinsey led Lakeside with 15 points, Destinee Joiner had 9, Jasmine Lewis had 4 and Nancy Silva fnished with 5.
