Major Harry P. McCall

Major Harry P. McCall, 93, of Minden, passed away Sept. 26, 2014, in the comfort of his home. He was born May 13, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of Harry P. McCall Sr. and Freida C. McCall McLarty.

He married his high school sweetheart, Gertrude Ritts Feb. 4, 1941, and they were indissolubly married until her passing June 27, 1997. He later espoused with Nancy S. Kimbell and remained married until her passing March 31, 2007.

He was preceded in death by his son, Harry P. McCall III.

Harry’s long-standing service to our country includes illustrious careers in the Army and National Guard. While serving, he attended the University of Miami and graduated with a BBA in Business Administration. He then found gainful employment with the Department of Treasury and worked feverishly until his retirement in 1976. His professional life was analogous with his familial life; he was an exemplary man, influencing multiple generations of fathers on how to take care of their families.

In passing, he leaves behind daughters, Kathy Keyser and Susan Baird and husband, Arnold; stepdaughters, Jackie Weaver and husband, Doug, Shanda Hooper and husband, Charles and Tanya Love; stepsons, Keith Kimbell and wife, Debra and Rickie Kimbell and wife, Marcie; granddaughter, Nancy Ingram and husband, Bob; grandsons, David Nelson and John McVeigh and wife, Jennifer; great-grandsons, Nick Catledge, Michael and Matthew Nelson, Harley Ingram and Ethan McVeigh; great-great-grandson, Adler Catledge; great-great-granddaughter, Asa Catledge; and a number of stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Gardens of Memory in Minden, under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Matthew Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 until 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

A special thanks to Dr. Chris Earnhardt, Gamble Hospice staff and Harry’s caretakers, Pirsilla Williams, John Hightower, Cindy Hollenshead, Dee Ann Valentine and Karen Hollenshead who took wonderful care of him.
