A man charged with three counts of aggravated rape pleaded guilty in open court after withdrawing his plea of not guilty during trial Sept. 16.

Court minutes show that Jessie Lee Martin III represented himself during trial, but later withdrew his not guilty plea and entered a plea of guilty.

That plea agreement to molestation of a juvenile led to a sentence of 25 years of hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence with credit for time served in front of 26th Judicial district judge Jeff Cox.

Assistant district attorney Hugo Holland says he was indicted in May of three counts of aggravated rape, adding the two victims were his natural daughters. During the trial, the family authorized him to offer Martin the deal, Holland says, and he took it.

“While I wanted to finish the trial, as I am convinced our Webster jury would have convicted him, my victims wanted the case over, and the plea cut off all appeal rights,” he said.

According to his indictment, count one occurred from 2000 to 2007, count two occurred from 2004 until 2010 and count three occurred from 2010 to 2013.

The charges of aggravated rape were dismissed in lieu of the plea agreement.

“The state will not bring charges against the defendant of pornography nor the possible charges in Bossier Parish,” according to the court minutes. “The court ordered the DVDs and the photos sealed and only used for appellate reasons.”
