Minden boys, girls sweep MHS Invitational

The Minden High Boys and Girls golf teams took top honors at the MHS Golf Invitational Tournament hosted at the Pine Hills Country Club Thursday. Senior Matt Flynn had an outstanding day shooting +2 and capturing the boys championship. North Webster’s Cameron Huff came in second place in individual scores. Minden’s Varsity team of Chris Stephens, Sawyer Lee, Hayden Wilkes, Levi Wheeler, and Flynn finished with the low combined score to win first place team edging out North Webster, Lakeside and Saline. Red River’s Ty Birdsong won the ”closest to the pin“ on a par 3 with a shot that measured only three feet from the hole. A.J. Stephens of North Webster won the longest drive contest with a thunderous hit on hole six.

In the girls division, Minden’s Abbie Guin once again lead the way and was crowned champion shooting her career best. Second place went to Saline’s Kristan Bell. The MHS girls team of Guin, Ashton Smith, Sara Watson, Layla Easley and Mary-Holland Floyd took first place team in the ladies division. The closest to the pin was won by North Webster’s Jaycee Johnson and Kristan Bell of Saline had the longest drive of the day .

Abbie Guin will represent MHS at the girls golf regional in Alexandria on April 27. The varsity boys team will travel to Monroe on Monday, April 18, to compete for the district crown.
