Minden, Lakeside turn in fast times at Haughton Relays

The Lakeside and Minden High track teams ended their regular seasons with some positive performances at the Haughton Relays. Lakeside boys’ and girls’ scored 20 points each for a pair of ninth places. The MHS boys scored six points and the ladies had two for 12th place finishes.

Alisa Lander tallied 18 points for the Lakeside ladies by running an outstanding time of 11:30.01 for second in the 3200 behind Parkway’s LSU signee Sara Funderburk at 11:22. Lander’s time was a new personal best by 25 seconds and is the best 2A time in the state this year. Lander won the 1600 title with a 5:35.46. Scoring the final two points for Lakeside was freshman Kelley Willis with a fifth place in the javelin with a toss of 92’4″.

The Minden Lady Tiders scored their points with a fifth place finish in the 400 relay. The relay made up of Whiting, Tinaja Rice, Lemonica Smith, and McKayla Bailey posted a time of 52.95.

The Lakeside boys were lead on the track by the distance trio of Eric Greene, Cody Robinson, and Logan Bailey. On Thursday morning, Greene signed a track scholarship with McNeese. Thursday afternoon he set two personal bests with a fourth place in the 1600 at 4:39.91 and a fifth place in the 800 at 2:09.02. Cody Robinson finished fifth in the 1600 at 4:50.54. Freshman Logan Bailey had an outstanding day with a big personal best of 10:58.20 which garnered him a fifth place finish in the 3200. In the field events the top scorer for the Warriors was Jordan Richard with a second place heave of 42’9″ in the shot. Djimon Lard had a personal best throw of 118’4″ which earned him a fourth place in the discus.

The MHS boys were led by sprinter McKelric Johnson who sped to a fourth place finish in the 100 meters at 11.13. Johnson also anchored the fifth place 400 relay which included Leo McCarter, Patrick Heard, and Dekeltric Freelon. The foursome clocked at 43.62.

Next action for Lakeside and MHS will be district meets on Thursday, April 21.

The Warriors travel to Red River. The Tide will be in Benton. The top four finishers in each event will earn a ticket to the Regional meets.
