Minden man arrested, accused of stealing Kool-Aid, food seasoning

A Minden man found himself in trouble with police for reportedly stealing a couple of packets of Kool-Aid and a container of seasoning from a Minden grocery store.

Kenneth Brewer, 30, of the 500 block of Sugar Creek Road, was arrested by Minden Police Tuesday, May 12, and charged with possession of Schedule III CDS, resisting an officer, misdemeanor theft of goods and simple criminal damage to property.
Bond was set at $8,750.

Police Chief Steve Cropper says Sgt. Ryan Barnette and Officer Mitch Hackett responded to the call, and when they arrived, a store employee was blocking the exit after observing Brewer putting items into his pockets.

“The store employee called the police and indicated what had happened,” Cropper said. “When officers went to arrest him he began resisting. They got one handcuff on him and he began to pull away. They finally got him handcuffed and got him to the car.”

When they got to the patrol unit, Cropper says Brewer pulled away from the officer again and turned “and got chest to chest with the officer.”

“The two officers had to pin him up against the car,” he said. “They did a pat down and that’s when they found some type of pill wrapped up in plastic inside a cigarette pack.”

Cropper says he denied ownership of the pill, which was later determined to be a Schedule III narcotic. The criminal damage charge came from when Brewer allegedly dented the car while resisting causing roughly $1,200 worth of damage.

“Once he got inside the car, he began to kick the barrier between the seats,” he said.

Cropper says he also admitted to drinking some beer.
