Minden run for St. Jude nears

by Minden Press-Herald

Six years running, the highly anticipated Minden run for St. Jude event is fast approaching.

Last year, there were a record number of participants, with 937 runners and walkers taking part. This year, the race committee is expecting even more, particularly because of the addition of a half marathon on top the 5k and 10k races.

The race kicks off a full day of Saturday events for St. Jude at the Minden Civic Center.

Early registration ends on Jan. 21 and all participants who register early are guaranteed a dri-fit race T-shirt, so act fast.

Race Director Erin Ramsey is excited to see the race grow, and for such a good cause.

“There are numerous individuals and businesses donating their time and money so that as much money as possible will be sent to help benefit the children of St. Jude,” Ramsey said. “So whether you run, walk, push a stroller, bring a pet, or sign up to cheer on the sidelines, do it for a child at St. Jude and help everyone make 2015 a banner year of support, encouragement and success.”

All three races travel through the Minden Historic District and scenic residential neighborhoods.

Ramsey said the course is both challenging and hilly, making it an attractice course and race for runners from Minden and all over the surrounding area.
