ALEXANDRIA — The public is getting extra time to comment on a proposal for a company near Colfax to burn more than 2 million pounds of hazardous waste a year.

The public comment period had been set to expire at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. However, Department of Environmental Quality spokesman Greg Langley told The Town Talk that it has now been extended until 4:30 p.m. Feb. 29

DEQ has scheduled a Feb. 23 public hearing on the proposal by Clean Harbors Colfax LLC.

The company is seeking a permit modification so it can more than triple the amount of toxic waste that can be openly burned at its site about five miles northwest of Colfax.

The comment deadline’s been extended already becasue of public backlash, any resident of/head-of-houselhold in Louisiana needs to be heard from on this! We have template/sample letters available.
