No requests made on first day of same sex marriage licenses

by Minden Press-Herald

No requests were made for same sex marriage licenses on the first day they are available in Webster Parish.

Clerk of Court Holli Vining says she didn’t expect a rush, but she thought they might at least get one.

“One gentleman did call and inquire about one, but he said they weren’t getting married until December,” she said.

Upon advice of legal counsel, the Webster Parish Clerk of Court’s office was prepared to start issuing same sex marriage licenses Tuesday morning following the United States Supreme Court ruling making same sex marriage legal in all 50 states.

The 5-4 ruling was issued Friday, June 26, in a landmark decision.
