North Webster Knights taking on Marksville

North Webster High School will be at home tonight to take on Marksville in a first round playoff game.

The Knights finished the regular season at 7-3 and enter the playoffs with a full head of steam.

“We’re hitting our stride right now,” North Webster head coach John Ware said. “We’ve practiced well the last couple of weeks. There is a different demeanor at practice, hopefully that’s a good sign for us. I’d call it a sense of urgency.”

The Knight’s made some noise in last year’s playoffs, playing their way into the quarterfinals of Class 3A before being beaten by Amite.

Ware hopes his team will carry some of that big game experience into this year’s playoff push.

“I think it does (help),” Ware said. “I think they know what to expect. They know what it feelslike to win these big games and also how much it hurts to lose in those spots. We’re a veteran team and that definitely bodes well for us.”

North Webster will be going up against a quality opponent in Marksville. The Tigers finished the regular season at 7-3 as well, and feature a high-powered run game.

“They’re going to run the football,” Ware said. “They run a unique offense, the old, Notre Dame box. It’s strange because there’s no quarterback so to speak. It’s a single wing with an upback and two guys back there who can both take the direct snap. it presents a challenge.”

Up to the challenge is the Knight’s defense, which has been lights out this season.

“Our kids are going to execute what we do,” Ware said. “That’s the difference between a veteran group and a younger one is that if we do have to make some adjustments we’ll make them quickly.”
