A reported physical altercation at a local residence has landed a Minden man in jail facing domestic abuse and drug-related charges.

Minden Chief of Police Steve Cropper said officers arrested 43-year-old Steven Moore Sr. last week at his Lewisville Road residence when they determined he had attempted to strangle a female companion.

Cropper said Moore is charged with domestic abuse battery with strangulation, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) and simple criminal damage to property. He is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

“The victim said Mr. Moore was extremely intoxicated and started arguing with her and breaking items she said belonged to her,” Cropper said. “He then grabbed her around the neck with his hands and arm, and would restrict her blood flow and breath to the point she would almost pass out.”

Responding officers Jesse Cutrer and Deidre Methvin, along with Sgt. Joel Kendrick found several items of drug paraphernalia and a small marijuana cigarette in a pair of forceps in the living room of the residence, Cropper said.

“All the items were in plain sight,” the chief said.

Because of the extensive destruction in and around the house, officers were unable to determine a dollar amount of the damages, Cropper added.
