Princeton man drives truck into Bayou Dorcheat

A Princeton man was alert and speaking when transported to Minden Medical Center following a one-vehicle incident that left his truck more-than-halfway submerged in Bayou Dorcheat outside Dorcheat Seafood.

The driver, Kenneth Mark Norris, 57, may have suffered what was being described by authorities as a “medical emergency,” possibly related to diabetes. It’s unclear how Norris’s vehicle ended up in the water, but Dixie Inn Chief of Police James Edwards said he was going to speak with Dorcheat Seafood about viewing there surveillance cameras for footage of the incident.

A passing by Webster Parish Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the truck in the water and turned into Dorcheat Seafood to find Norris exiting the truck and wading towards the bank. Norris claimed the truck belonged to his girlfriend, but was having trouble answering other questions about the accident, according to authorities at the scene.

“No one else that was here saw anything,” Fire District 10 Chief Brian Williams said. “We called an ambulance to check him out. The Minden dive team verified that there was no one else involved other than the driver of the vehicle. It was possibly a medical emergency that caused this, but we’re not sure.”
