Twenty new employees have found a work home with Clement Industries, thanks to a job fair and course linked to a partnership with the local company, Northwest Louisiana Technical College and Louisiana Economic Development Fast Start.

“The curriculum that was used for these FCAW courses was exactly what was needed to ensure candidates would be provided with the knowledge to be successful welders for our company,” Clement Industries Plant Manager Les Quay said.

Northwest LTC’s customized training program provided accelerated flux core arc welding training which was designed to meet the workforce needs of the Minden-based manufacturer of steel and aluminum dump trailers.
Quay said business at Clement is good and the company has a backlog of trailers to complete.
“We’re putting out more trailers right now than we have in the last five years,” he said. “And we need to make more.”

A job fair was held in June and successful candidates began training June 16.

“In addition to the technical skills required by Clement, the 90-hour course provided additional skills such as, measurement devices, manufacturing math and proper work ethic,” Scott Price, Northwest LTC’s Assistant Dean at the Minden Campus, said.

Founded in 1936, Northwest Louisiana Technical College is a member of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. The main campus is located in Minden and other campuses operate in Mansfield, Many, Natchitoches, and Shreveport. Northwest LTC was recently recognized by the Aspen Institute as one of the nation’s top two-year colleges.
