Registration underway for inaugural 5K Hunger Run

by Minden Press-Herald

Registration is now underway for the inaugural 5K Hunger Run which will benefit the Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry.

Jessica Lewis, JLFP director, says the event is set for Nov. 5, with a 1k for the kids and a 5k for the adults. Registration forms can be found at www.eventbright.com. Search for the Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry registration. Registration forms can also be picked up at All Hours Fitness in Minden, Fanette’s Flower House or the United Way of Northwest Louisiana. Fill out the form and mail it to Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1426, Minden, LA 71058.

Each runner will receive a swag bag with their bibs, t-shirts and a ticket to the family fun day to follow.

Early registration is $25 per runner until Oct. 1, and then from Oct. 1 until Nov. 4, registration will be $30. It will be $35 the day of the run. The race will be professionally timed. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the pantry’s new location at the old vocational school, located at 814 Constable Street. The 1k fun run for the kids begins at 8 a.m., and the 5k begins at 8:30 a.m.

Packet pickup will be at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at the new building.

Lewis says the event will tie into the annual Feed A Family event for Thanksgiving. Runners have the option to participate in a food drive, where they can pick up dry goods at water breaks and carry it along the route, either in their swag bag or they can bring a backpack, she said.

At the end of the run, participants will take part in a bag packing contest to see who can pack the bags the fastest.

“The idea is to get them to understand the weight of being hungry,” she said.

Feed A Family kicks off Oct. 1 and will end on distribution day, Saturday, Nov. 19.

The family fun day will be full of fun, food, games and live music.
