Samuel Martin Makowsky, Jr

Samuel Martin Makowsky, Jr., 73, a resident of Minden, La. (Webster Parish) since 1963, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 in Minden Medical Center.

Visitation will be conducted Monday, April 2nd at Hillcrest Funeral Home, in Haughton, LA, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 3rd at Hillcrest Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be afterward at Hillcrest Cemetery in Haughton, LA.

Sam was born in Wichita, KS (Sedgewick CO) on September 16, 1944. He is survived by his wife Gloria Joye Childs Makowsky, of 54 years, two sons, Samuel Dale Makowsky and Michael Wayne Makowsky, both of Minden, LA. He has two grandsons; Joshua Dale and Bradley Michael Makowsky; two granddaughters; Katie Diane and Paige O’Leater Makowsky; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters; Marie Page of Medford, OK and Mary Cowan of Derby, KS.
 
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronny Thurston Makowsky; a grandson, Matthew Martin Makowsky; his father, Samuel Martin Makowsky, Sr. born in Walling, TX (Hill CO); his mother, Betty Lee Fulfer born in Mineral Wells, TX (Pala Pinto CO); and his three sisters, Helen, Babe, and Evelyn.

Sam was saved and baptized as a young boy and was a member of First Baptist Church in Bossier City, LA. Sam held several occupations in his life. He served three years in the U.S. Army in Belleview, La. He was a fireman, worked in maintenance for Sears, maintenance supervisor at hotel in Shreveport, LA, worked in maintenance for LAAP and an instructor at NWLA Technical College.

Sam always had a story to tell everyone he met. He loved fishing, hunting, and model railroads. He also loved his family and friends very much. 

Officiating will be Joe Whitney of First Baptist in Bossier, LA.

Pall Bearers include Chris Evans, Josh Norris, Josh Makowsky, Bradley Makowsky, Tim Holden, and Otis Kimmons.
