A woman who reportedly spent money from a tax refund debit card belonging to an elderly man has now been jailed on warrants for theft.

Springhill Police arrested Tammy Jo Perkins, 55, of the 100 block of Half-Pint Road in Shongaloo on warrants from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office for identity theft, monetary instrument abuse and theft of assets of an aged person.

Maj. Dustin Reynolds, with the sheriff’s office, says Perkins was a tax preparer in Haynesville.

“She did the victim’s taxes, got the refund debit card and then used the card at numerous locations,” he said.

He says she went to a number of automated teller machines and withdrew money from each one.

She was booked at Springhill police headquarters. The sheriff’s office then picked her up and transferred her to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

Bond was set at $175,000.
