State trying to lure former residents back to Louisiana

by Associated Press

BATON ROUGE — Louisiana’s economic development department has launched a nationwide campaign to attract former state residents to growing numbers of new jobs in this state.

The campaign, dubbed “Come Home, Louisiana,” is tied to a free state website, LouisianaJobConnection.com. The new campaign has its own website, www.comehomelouisiana.com, which has a quick link to the jobs website.

That website is designed to match the skills of job seekers with the best available jobs of Louisiana employers.

State officials say since the website became available to people searching for jobs on Aug. 18, more than 12,000 job seekers have placed the details of their experience and training on it.

State economic development officials tell The Advocate (http://bit.ly/ZsJzjA) more than 950 Louisiana employers have posted available jobs on the same website.

Video and audio stories of returning Louisiana residents also are posted with LJC. They include a woman who left New York City to return to Lafayette and a job with international wholesale jeweler Stuller Inc.

One woman left Dallas for Monroe and a job with telecommunications giant CenturyLink.

One section of “Come Home, Louisiana” stresses that the Shreveport-Bossier City area in the state’s northwest corner has significantly lower medical costs and a lower cost of living than that of nearby Dallas.

Louisiana Economic Development officials also say more than $60 billion in new industrial facilities or expansions are planned for completion in the state over the next several years.

Those state officials said companies in the technology sector already have announced new facilities or expansions that will add 4,500 jobs over three years.
