Minden boys downed by double digits vs Shreve; Minden girls dominate Lady Bucs, 60-40

The Minden Crimson Tide played well in spurts, but the Captain Shreve Gators had too much poise down the stretch for Minden to overcome a double digit deficit as the Tide fell 69-56.

“I thought the youth and inexperience of our team showed last night,” Minden head coach Rennie Bailey said. “We started the game with a big deficit…I am encouraged by the resiliency this team continues to show. We were down by as many as 20 and got it as close as nine, but weren’t able to win it. We have to learn how to start better.”

Curtis Carter led the Tide in scoring with 13 points, Trey Oliver finished with 12 points and Cedrick Emerson was the third Tider in double digits with 11 points.

Bailey and the Crimson Tide will be back on the court Tuesday night on the road against Gibsland-Coleman. In the girls game, Jacob Brown and the Minden Lady Tiders defeated the Haughton Lady Bucs 60-40.

The Lady Tiders never broke a sweat while cruising past the Lady Bucs for the second time in four days, however it wasn’t always pretty, as the team missed close to 10 point-blank shots much to the chagrin of Brown.

“You want to see improvement, but you want to see consistency as well,” Brown said. “I thought we came out a little sloppy, sluggish. We had opportunities, high-percentage shots, that we didn’t convert. Fortunately, wee did hit some key shots and did a good job on the defensive glass.”

Whitney Aubrey and Bre Rodgers led the way with 11 points each, followed by Sha’Terra Batton with 9 points and Tayler Banks and Sha Whiting added 8 points each.

Minden takes on Lakeside next Tuesday at The Palace.
