Traffic stop ends in drug arrest

A Shreveport man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop for reportedly swerving into the other lane of traffic.

The initial complaint came in to the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office around 11:30 p.m., when deputies were dispatched to Highway 157 at Highway 371 in reference to a vehicle reportedly seen swerving into the other lane of traffic and off the shoulder of the road, according to the arrest report.

Deputy Troy Walker conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle described as a 1995 Ford Mustang, identifying the driver as Greggory Tremell English, 34, of Pines Road in Shreveport.

Deputies say English appeared to be extremely nervous and was sweating profusely. He was not able to provide his driver’s license or other information when asked. Walker ran a background check and while waiting, he asked for consent to search.

Reports indicate he refused the search, and told deputies “I’d prefer to wait for a dog.”

Deputy Joel Thomas and his K-9 partner Nicko arrived on scene and received two positive responses for reported drugs.

A search of the vehicle revealed rolling papers, a small bag of suspected synthetic marijuana and allegedly two partially smoked joints.

English was placed under arrest for charges of possession of synthetic marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
