Minden Police arrested a man on drug charges during a traffic stop while they were investigating another matter.

Detectives were tipped off to the location of a suspect in which they were looking and around 2:15 p.m., Wednesday, initiated a traffic stop on the suspected vehicle on U.S. Hwy. 80. Police Chief Steve Cropper says they made contact with a subject in the backseat of the vehicle where they believed the other suspect to be.

“They’d gotten information that the suspect was in the car,” he said, “but the male in the backseat was Derelle Ridley, not the guy they were looking for.”

Police found a green, leafy substance, believed to be marijuana, on Ridley’s shirt, and when he stepped out of the vehicle to talk with officers, a small plastic baggy containing suspected marijuana fell out of his pant leg, the chief said.

Inside the vehicle with Ridley was a four-year-old little girl, according to the police report.
Ridley, 27, of the 300 block of Pine Street, was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana in the presence of an underage person and on a warrant from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office for reckless operation.

He was transported to police headquarters and later transferred to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
