Minden Police arrested a man after medical personnel contacted them reporting he had drugs on him.

Eric Smith Jr., 23, of the 1400 block of Lincoln Avenue, was arrested for possession of schedule I controlled dangerous substance (synthetic marijuana, second offense).

Police Chief Steve Cropper says around 11:40 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to Minden Medical Center and made contact with a nurse who reportedly told them Smith came to the emergency room and passed out.

“She found a green, leafy substance in his front, right pants pocket,” he said. “The nurse secured the substance in a thick plastic bag and contacted the police department.”

The officers then took into custody the substance they believed to be synthetic marijuana, which weighed approximately one gram.

A background check revealed Smith has a prior conviction of schedule 1 CDS in April, Cropper said.

Smith was later discharged and police took him into custody, placed him under arrest and transported him to police headquarters. He was later transferred to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
