Addictive disorders affect not only the person who might carry that burden but the families of those with addictions.
Alpha Club of Minden, a 501c3 tax-exempt corporation, is dedicated to the sole purpose of providing a physical home for treatment of and education concerning addictive disorders. Most of the current 18 meetings per week are operated under the auspices of the Minden group of Alcoholics Anonymous and are 12-step, spiritually-based programs designed to help those with addiction issues abstain from alcohol or drug use and live productive lives that are happy, joyous and free from mind and mood-altering chemicals.
There are no dues or fees for AA and all meetings are one hour. More than 250 hours of group therapy are received at no charge every week. A basket is passed at each meeting to cover expenses such as coffee, the electric bill and other incidentals.
All groups observe the principle of anonymity; in this manner all are free to express their concerns free from fear of repercussions.
The Serenity Group meets each Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for family and friends of alcoholics and addicts and is highly recommended for those with children, spouses or significant other relationships.
