2021 prep football season set for kickoff

The 2021 high school football season gets underway this weekend with all three of four Webster Parish teams hosting home games.

All four games are set for 7 p.m. starts today.

After last year’s scheduled opener against Parkway Minden  was canceled by COVID, the Crimson Tide will resume its annual early season series against the Panthers.

Parkway won the last meeting between the schools 49-28 in 2019.

“Anytime we play Parkway we know we’ll be tested,” said Minden coach Spencer Heard. “We’ve had a good offseason and are ready to get things started.”

Glenbrook Academy will play host to  River Oaks out of Monroe to open the Apaches season.

The Apaches last met River Oaks in 2019,  falling on the road 34-23.

Lakeside will also be at home to start the season as the Warriors take on the Magnolia School of Excellence.

Warriors head coach Mike Santelices is hoping a strong showing from his team in last week’s Pineland Jamboree will carry over to the season opener.

“Playing an always tough and perennial powerhouse like Haynesville to a scoreless jamboree game is hopefully something we can build on as we open the season,” Santelices said.

North Webster will be the only parish team to open the season on the road as the Knights play at Haynesville.

“We’re ready to get out there and get this season going,” said North Webster.  “Haynesville is always a tough and talented team, but we’re ready to see what we have this season.”
