The Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Commission held its quarterly board meeting on September 18 at its offices on Sibley Road. Board members Dianne Blake, Sara McDaniel, and Nickey Patel were absent. All agenda items were approved unanimously.
The board briefly reviewed and approved the financial report, with Chairman Ty Pendergrass addressing the expenses related to Miller Quarters. “In cleaning up Miller Quarters, we’ve had some expenses, so our expenses have exceeded our revenue,” Pendergrass said. “It was just a question of getting it [the park] where we can maintain it. We’ll use some of our reserve funds to make up that difference.”
Administrative Assistant Johnnye Kennon noted that quarterly federal funds are expected soon to aid the budget.
The board approved four advertising grants of $2,000 each for upcoming events, including Minden Oktoberfest (October 12), Minden Fall Festival (October 26), Jambin’ on Main Jambalaya Cook-off (November 2), and Minden Maker’s Fair (November 9).
In addition, the board agreed to sponsor the Mid-Sized Cities Mayor’s Conference, scheduled for October 23-25, with a $750 contribution to offset event expenses.
No decisions were made regarding the replacement of former Executive Director Serena Gray, who recently left for a position in Shreveport/Bossier.
The next board meeting will be held at the Springhill North Webster Chamber of Commerce on November 20 at 8:30 AM.
