The Webster Parish Police Jury held a brief and routine meeting on March 4 as thunderstorms moved through northwest Louisiana.
Three members of the board—Daniel Thomas, Beverly Kennon, and Adam Lee—were absent. All agenda items were approved unanimously, including:
— Approving invoices for payment pending review by Juror Beverly Kennon on March 10. — Adopting the minutes of the February 4 Road Committee, Finance Committee, Intergovernmental Committee, and Regular Meeting. — Reappointing Leon Smith to another two-year term on the Webster Parish Fire Protection District #8 board, expiring in January 2027.
One item, Ordinance #1024-Webster Parish Entergy Franchise Renewal, was tabled pending further information and will be revisited next month.
During committee reports, Deputy Chief Tokia Harrison announced a seminar on developing a church crisis team. The free event is scheduled for April 3 at 5:30 PM at the Minden Civic Center. Local churches are invited to attend, with RSVPs required at City Hall.
Sheriff Jason Parker announced a seminar on avoiding scams, set for March 27 at the Civic Center. The event, which includes a meal, runs from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. RSVPs can be made through the local b1BANK.
Parker also reported that 20-25 dogs were recently abandoned on Dement Road in Doyline. Authorities have captured most of the animals and are seeking information on the perpetrator. “They had to drop them off in a horse trailer,” Parker said, noting that the dogs were left all at once and varied in size and breed.
The Webster Parish Police Jury meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 AM in the Webster Parish Courthouse Annex at 401 Main Street, with committee meetings held beforehand. The public is welcome to attend.
