Clarence Bryant named Webster Parish Employee of the Month

by Amber McDown

Clarence Bryant, a veteran bus driver for the Webster Parish School Board, was named Employee of the Month for May during the board’s regular meeting held May 5.

The recognition was presented by Kevin Thompson of Taylor and Sons, who sponsor the Employee of the Month award. Bryant was nominated by Supervisor of Transportation and Maintenance Denny Finley, whose recommendation letter highlighted Bryant’s dedication, reliability, and longstanding service to the district.

“Mr. Clarence Bryant is a seasoned bus driver for the Webster Parish School Board,” Finley wrote. “You can always count on Clarence to get his kids to and from school safely each day. The students are very much aware of the rules on Mr. Bryant’s bus and do not attempt to break them, but they all know that he will bend over backwards for them if needed.”

The letter emphasized Bryant’s commitment to student safety and discipline while fostering a supportive environment.

“He is strongly committed to teaching them the rules to ensure that everyone has a positive experience,” Finley continued. “It is not in his nature to sit idle anytime he’s needed. Clarence knows Minden like the back of his hand and is always willing to help fellow drivers.”

Finley cited several instances where Bryant responded to early morning calls to assist with bus coverage due to mechanical issues or staffing shortages.

“On numerous occasions I have contacted Clarence before daylight due to a bus being down or another driver being sick. He always gets everything sorted out, which allows me to focus on the rest of the district,” he wrote. “Clarence has never asked for anything in return; it is my firm belief that he does it for the kids. Every school district needs an employee like Mr. Clarence Bryant. It is my honor to nominate him as Webster Parish Employee of the Month.”

Bryant’s recognition was met with appreciation from board members and attendees, who applauded his years of service and dedication to the students and staff of Webster Parish.
